Deuteronomy 18:9-14
18:9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations (offerings) of those nations.

18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. (Familiar spirits are evil spirits personating dead human beings and attaching themselves only to “mediums” and those who give up their will to them.)

18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD (Jehovah): and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

18:13 Thou shalt be perfect (devoted or single-hearted) with the LORD thy God.

18:14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

Contradiction

Among the many Commandments that were levied by Jehovah, was one categorically forbidding “magical” practices by any of the “Chosen.”

Why, in this case, were Moses and Aaron doing the “rod and snake trick” when in front of Pharaoh and his priests? Where do the exceptions begin and end?

Conclusion

I don’t know why Moses and Aaron were doing magical tricks and I think it’s not that important. Possibly they forgot the rule Or… Jehovah permitted them to do magical tricks for this particular situation.

Why are the magical practices forbidden? That’s the question.

From my point of view, today’s science “practices” are yesterday’s magical practices. Take the cell phones for example, I mean really take it and examine, can you tell how it works, or better, can you build one for yourself? If you can, you’re a member of the minority. It’s pure magic in a beautiful small box

I strongly believe that Jehovah never wanted the “chosen” people to discover technologies that empower them. You start with simple magical experiments today and you drop atom bombs tomorrow. Yesterday I was talking to someone barely I know. Let’s call him John. I was asking some questions about religions. Suddenly I surprised, because John was calling me “satanic.” and inviting me to the God’s way. I don’t know any satanic rituals and satanic people. I don’t have any satanic beliefs, I don’t worship Satan, why did he call me satanic? Then I realized that he was calling me satanic just because of my questions. He didn’t want me to question his religion.

I think Gardner is right. The word Satan is a name for any opposer. Besides, its meaning is the same in most of the languages.
