Amazon Kindle

I can’t believe! Is this the Amazon’s eBook reader really? It’s so ugly. When I dare to look at it, I feel like I’m a middle ages monk or… A device borrowed from an alien spaceship… Please tell me, this isn’t the Amazon Kindle eBook Reader!

I love to read books. I wait for a good electronic reader for years but please, this isn’t what I waited for!

Well, Sony’s reader isn’t exactly what i need but it looks like Tyra Banks if you compare it to Amazon Kindle. (If that ugly thing is really Amazon Kindle of course.)

According to Gizmodo, “the price is going to be above $400. Seeing as the Sony reader is fetching somewhere around $300 to $350, that’s not a good place to start.” Exactly! By the way, neither Amazon’s nor Sony’s price is cheap enough. It must be under $100. An eBook reader must be as thin as a book page. It must be foldable and even creasable. What happened to Sony’s “pocket radio” dreaming days?

I find it interesting and amusing that so many folks are focused on the aesthetics of this device. Undoubtedly the same people who buy iPods because “they’re so cute!” or “so tOtAlLy CoOl!” even at twice the price and half the functionality of “uglier” portable music players.

Actually, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at folks’ ongoing obsession with style over substance. Sure explains a lot of the crap we have in popular culture, though. - Adam
