100 Years War

I’m not a big Science Fiction fan but I like to read Science Fiction Novels from time to time. It’s good to read some ideas out of the box, understand different world views from authors like Larry Niven, Asimov, Frank Herbert… They all published their ideas like the ideas are out of this world, this time. No, their stories are real, happened before and still happening. For example…

100 Years’ War

According to Wikipedia, “The Hundred Years’ War was a conflict between France and England, lasting 116 years from 1337 to 1453. It was fought primarily over claims by the English kings to the French throne and was punctuated by several brief and two lengthy periods of peace before it finally ended in the expulsion of the English from France, with the exception of the Calais Pale.”

In Larry Niven’s book, RingWorld, there’s a race called Kzin. The race of Kzin has big ego problems. Their war is about dying for something. You can solve many problems without violence. They don’t understand this. When they have some power they declare a war immediately to their lovely enemy humans. (Love hate relation.) It’s childish. At the other hand, there’s another race called Puppeteers. Other races call them “Cowards” because they don’t like to play “my daddy beats your daddy” game. Puppeteers are reasonable. They don’t believe in violence. If you have a problem, find what you need and just talk, negotiate. That’s enough. Of course other races are not as reasonable as Puppeteers. Yes. That’s where the name of their race come.

By the way…

There’s an onlime game: “The Hundred Years War“. The game’s website says “This isn’t a kid’s game. Thinking people play HYW.” If you feel like “thinking” visit their website :) Oh there’s one more game, “Bladestorm: The 100 Years War“.
